Whitening
Cosmetic Dentistry
This 21 year old patient presented with a chief complaint of staining. He reported he was happy with the shape, size and alignment of his teeth but not the color. A good cleaning was done to remove all the extrinsic dark stains first followed by professional in-office whitening using Opalescence Boost to address the intrinsic stains. The process took about an hour and the results were immediate and painless. The patient was beyond happy and committed to maintaining the results. For lasting results, it is recommended to use the take-home-whitening gel provided as needed.
Whitening
Cosmetic Dentistry
This patient presented to our clinic with a chief complaint of not seeing good results with over the counter whitening products. She reports about 10 years ago she did in-office professional Zoom whitening and loved the results. She states she has tried multiple brands of over the counter whitening products and none of them seem to work well. She also reports, she is a busy mom and whitening at home is time consuming. She has a beautiful smile that is well aligned and the teeth are already pretty white. We were able to get the teeth a few shades lighter with two 20 minute sessions of Opalescence Boost professional whitening completed in one setting. She was thrilled with the outcome and loved that the results were immediate and it took less than an hour. She will continue to maintain the results as needed with our Opalescence Go take-home whitening kit. She also has the option of repeating the professional dental whitening as needed.
Composite Bonding
Cosmetic Dentistry
This 24 year old female patient wanted to know if there was something that could be done about the unevenness of her two front teeth. She reports she went through braces and her teeth did not look like this when she was done but she did not wear her retainers and her teeth shifted back. She reports she does not want to go through braces again as she is happy with the way the rest of her teeth look. After discussing composite bonding with enameloplasty (also called odontoplasty) and veneers, we decided on composite bonding and enameloplasty. Tooth Composite (white filling) material was added and bonded to the shorter tooth and some enameloplasty (reshaping) was performed on the longer tooth to make them even more symmetrical. This was a quick and painless way to make a significant improvement to the patient’s smile and increase her overall confidence.
Composite Bonding
Cosmetic Dentistry
This 16 year old patient presented to the clinic with a chipped front tooth that resulted from a sports injury. He reported some sensitivity but his main concern was to have his smile back. In this case, the pulp was not visible and we decided to use composite bonding to rebuild the tooth. This option was the least invasive option as it did not require removing any natural remaining tooth structure and did not require numbing the patient. Tooth colored composite (white filling) material was added and bonded to his remaining natural tooth. The composite was then shaped and polished to match his other front tooth. Composite bonding was a great option in this case since the injury to the tooth had just occurred and it was too early to tell if the bruised pulp and nerve tissue would heal. In some cases, the trauma to the tooth/teeth is too much and the nerve and pulp do not heal necessitating a root canal. In this case, the nerve and pulp tissue healed well and the tooth did not require any further treatment. When older, the patient also has the option to get a veneer or a crown for a more permanent and cosmetically pleasing result.
Dentures
Cosmetic Dentistry
This young male patient presented with multiple missing teeth and teeth with advanced decay (cavities). He was trying to get a job and wanted to feel more confident with his smile. After discussing multiple options including saving some of his teeth, the patient elected to have all the teeth removed and get a complete denture (false teeth). A complete denture will replace all the missing and remaining teeth and give him a brand new smile. In this case, the teeth were removed first, waited 4 weeks for the bone and gums to heal and then an impression was taken to make the denture. Waiting for the tissues to heal is advisable to get a more accurate mold and therefore, a better fit of the denture. The patient was thrilled with his new smile and still has the opportunity to get implants or convert the denture to an implant overdenture to have more stability.
Dentures
Cosmetic Dentistry
This older female patient presented with multiple broken and decayed teeth that were preventing her from eating, speaking and smiling. She reports she has neglected her oral health for many years due to personal circumstances and now is ready to get her smile back. Due to the amount of damage present, it was not possible to save any of her upper teeth. After discussion of a few different options, the patient elected to get a removable immediate complete denture. This meant she would be getting her new teeth the same day we would be removing her remaining teeth so she never had to go without teeth. This is a great affordable option for patients that need all of their teeth replaced and they are not a candidate for implants. There was a significant improvement in the patient’s smile and quality of life.
Veneers
Cosmetic Dentistry
This patient wanted to further improve his smile after going through orthodontic treatment. He reported that although his teeth are no longer crooked, he is not happy with the color, shape and the different sizes of the teeth. Porcelain veneers are a great way to change the shape, size and color of teeth permanently. Minimal-prep veneers were chosen in this case. A diagnostic dental mock up was also completed so the patient can get an idea of the final look of the veneers. Once the patient and Dr. Kawani were happy with the size, shape and color of the veneers, the veneers were fabricated and then fitted and bonded to the teeth. The whole process takes 2-3 weeks. Retainers were made in this case since the patient had just completed orthodontic treatment. A night guard or retainers is always recommended after placing multiple veneers to protect them when sleeping.
Veneers
Cosmetic Dentistry
This young female patient wanted to upgrade her smile. She did not like the color of her teeth and how her two front teeth were starting to chip. She reported she is very busy and wants to permanently whiten her teeth with veneers. She also wanted bigger and longer teeth. The decision was made to place 8 no-prep veneers in the lightest shade possible as requested by the patient. She wanted a Hollywood smile. A digital scan was completed and the smile was designed and then fabricated and permanently cemented. The patient no longer has to worry about whitening her teeth. Porcelain veneers are very color stable and will not change color overtime. The patient absolutely loved her new smile.
Veneers
Cosmetic Dentistry
This mom of 3 was not happy with the color of her teeth, the spacing between her teeth and how her front two teeth were starting to thin and chip. She was ready to transform her smile. She reported she did not want to go through traditional braces at her age and the Invisalign trays make her gag and she can’t keep them in. She also requested that no tooth structure be removed in the process. She stated her teeth were already small and thin and she did not want them to get any weaker. The decision was made to make 4 no-prep veneers (thin porcelain shells) to close the spaces and restore the chips. No-prep means the veneers are placed directly on top of her teeth as they are without any tooth structure removal or preparations. Whenever possible, no prep or minimal-prep veneers are selected to preserve the enamel (most outer layer of the teeth). In this case, in office teeth whitening was completed first to address the darker shade of the teeth. Once the desired shade was achieved, we were ready to start the treatment. A digital impression of the teeth was taken and the smile was designed. The veneers were then permanently cemented on the teeth. The patient was very pleased with this fast, painless treatment option.
Crowns
Cosmetic Dentistry
This patient presented with a chief complaint of broken, yellow teeth that had been getting worse overtime. She loved her diastema (the space between the front two teeth) and wanted to keep the space. Her teeth had been breaking down due to acid erosion from acid reflux and now that the acid reflux was being treated and under control, she wanted to fix her teeth. Due to the significant wear on the teeth and yellow color, a combination of crowns and veneers were chosen to restore the shape and color of the teeth while keeping the space between the two front teeth. The patient was pleased with the results and will think about getting veneers on her canine teeth as well to enhance the smile even more.
Crowns
Cosmetic Dentistry
This patient presented with a chief complaint of spacing and small teeth that she has always hated. She reports she wants an affordable solution to improve her smile. She is getting married in a few months and ready to get the work done. This patient has two peg laterals which are smaller, underdeveloped teeth on either side of her two front teeth. This is a rare condition that is usually genetic. This often leads to spacing and an uneven smile. After evaluation and discussion of several different options, the decision was made to place crowns on the peg shaped teeth and composite bondings and enameloplasty on the two central front teeth. This resulted in a significant improvement in her smile that looked very natural.
Crowns
Cosmetic Dentistry
This patient presented with an existing crown that was lighter than the rest of her teeth making it stand out. She also reports she does not like the shape of the tooth next to the crown. She reports when she first got it, the cap didn’t stand out this much. This is because her natural teeth had gotten more yellow overtime but the color of the crown was more resistant to change and did not change. The decision was made to replace the existing crown with a new crown and place a veneer on the adjacent tooth. The patient elected to have the crown and veneer made slightly whiter than her natural teeth in case she wanted to whiten her teeth in the future as the color of the crown and veneer will not get lighter with whitening. Making small enhancements can improve the overall look of the smile as we see in this case.
Crowns
Cosmetic Dentistry
This patient in her early 50s presented with a chief complaint of discolored composite fillings in the front that she did not like. She stated she wanted the teeth to look as natural as possible. She reports she likes drinking black tea and is not interested in whitening her teeth. She just wants to improve her natural smile. The two front teeth had large composite bondings that were about 10 years old and were starting to break down, discolor and had cavities developing underneath. The decision was made to clean out the cavities and place two all ceramic emax crowns. Emax crowns mimic the natural teeth very well and were chosen for this reason. This was a very conservative approach that gave the patient a really nice and natural result. The patient was very pleased and wished she had done this years ago.
Crowns
Cosmetic Dentistry
This male patient presented with a failing PFM (Porcelain fused to metal) crown and disclosed front teeth that he did not like. He was getting married in a year and wanted to look his best for the wedding. He reports some years ago he dove into a shallow pool and injured his front teeth. A root canal treatment and pfm crown was done on one of the teeth as a result of the injury. The crown changed color overtime as the metal was starting to show through. One of the other front teeth did not heal after the injury turning dark and necessitated a root canal before placing a crown. A combination of all ceramic (no metal) crowns and veneers were placed to hide the dark color of the non-vital teeth and restore the patient’s smile. The patient was very happy with the results and now could focus on planning his wedding.
Crowns
Cosmetic Dentistry
This young female patient presented with a chief complaint of a cap (crown) that she hates because it’s whiter and longer than the rest of her teeth making it stand out. She wanted to get a new crown that would blend in better. The patient had a habit of grinding her teeth leading to significant wear on her other front tooth. The decision was made to make two Zirconia crowns to match the color and size better and to restore the size and shape of her other front tooth. Zirconia is a strong and durable material and was chosen as the material of choice due to the patient’s grinding habit. This resulted in a healthier, stronger and more natural smile.
Invisalign
Cosmetic Dentistry
This young female patient just graduated from college and reported she did not like all the spaces between her teeth when she smiled. Her main concern was to close all the spaces without traditional metal and bracket braces. She was motivated and eager to start. Invisalign was the best treatment option in this case and was the treatment selected. Some pictures of the teeth and a digital scan were taken to start the case. A few weeks later, the patient got her first set of trays to wear which she changed out to new ones every 2 weeks. After 7 months in treatment, all the spaces were closed and the patient was very happy with the results. The patient will continue to wear her retainers at nighttime only to keep the spaces from returning.
Bridges
Cosmetic Dentistry
This patient presented with 3 missing front teeth, lost due to periodontitis (gum disease) and traumatic occlusion (unhealthy bite). She wanted a fixed (non-removable) solution to replace her missing teeth and restore her smile. The Patient declined dental implants due to high cost. The next best fixed solution was an all ceramic dental bridge. A 6 unit Zirconia bridge was the treatment option selected. With a dental bridge, the false teeth (called pontics) are made to look as though they are growing out of the gum ridge and are attached (bridged) and bonded to the prepared natural teeth (called abutments or supports) resulting in a natural smile that is fixed making it easier to bite, chew and speak. This is a great fixed option for patients that are not a good candidate for implants due to health concerns, affordability, and not enough space or bone for dental implants. Dental bridges are an option to replace one missing tooth or multiple missing teeth as in this case and can be used to replace back or front teeth. This patient was very appreciative that a fixed option besides dental implants was available and offered to her to replace her missing front teeth.
Bridges
Cosmetic Dentistry
This patient complained of dark lines at the gum line that had been getting worse overtime and felt that the color and shape of her existing bridge did not match her natural teeth. She felt self-conscious about her smile and wanted to smile more confidently. The patient lost her two front teeth many years ago due to an accident. She reported she did not want dental implants due to anxiety about the procedure. The patient elected to replace her existing 4 unit bridge with a new and more natural looking layered Zirconia bridge (all ceramic bridge). This resulted in a more natural smile with the teeth shape and color matching her natural teeth. We were also able to eliminate the dark lines at the gum line caused by gum recession and cavities giving her a more youthful appearance. The patient was very pleased with the improvement to her smile and reported feeling more confident.
